A notary public in Victoria is a senior lawyer who is responsible for certifying and attesting documents intended for use anywhere in the world.
The list of what notaries is long and it includes:
- the attestation of powers of attorney and other documents;
- the taking of affidavits, statutory declarations, contracts and other documents;
- the verification of various documents including company records;
- witnessing and confirmaing execution of various documents;
- securing an autentication and/or Apostille from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

To become a notary public, a candidate must have been a lawyer for at least five continuous years, hold an Australian practising certificate and complete the Notarial Practice Course. So it is not for the faint-hearted!
Note: We believe our principal Luiza Struska is the only Polish speaking notary in Victoria – she completed her Master of Laws in Poland and her native language is Polish so she’s the person to go to for all things Polish!
